Huge congratulations to RadShot contributor Lorenz Holder, who just won the prestigious 2013 Red Bull Illume photography contest with this incredible image of snowboarder Xaver Hoffmann jumping a huge flash-lit satellite dish in Raisting, Germany. The top 50 shots were revealed at a glitzy ceremony in Hong Kong, where Holder was presented with $30,000 worth of prizes including a Leica S camera, a broncolor Move Outdoor kit and Sun-Sniper gear. Incidentally, Lorenz won $10,000 earlier this year with the same picture in The Open photography competition.
The award-winning image was the result of six month’s planning. Here’s the story behind the shot, in Lorenz Holder’s own words: “It was basically just flashed from behind with two big Elinchrom Rangers,” he explains. “I had a 4-second exposure in order to get a bit of light from the moon into the dish. I’d done a lot of testing on this thing during the summer, and when winter came I pretty much knew how to light everything up.”
