Born in a small town outside Vienna, Rudi Wyhlidal has been snowboarding in the Austrian Alps since the early 90’s. As soon as he left school he began turning his passion into a career, first as an instructor, then a summer camp organiser and finally head park designer at Sölden. As the jumps got bigger and the riders got better, Rudi found himself compelled to document their progression. Soon “a random Eastern European mag” had selected one of his shots for a cover, only to change their minds because the image quality from his old camera wasn’t up to scratch. This near-miss encouraged Rudi to invest in some pro gear and he hasn’t looked back, gaining a masters in photography and seeing his work appear in mags the world over. Still based in Sölden – which under Rudi’s watchful eye continues to produce a world class park and attract the best riders – he now regularly travels the globe to ply his trade.
